Reprocessing Polished Concrete

When placed and polished in the manner that is supposed, polished concrete flooring looks aesthetically pleasing. It most definitely has the “wow” factor. Concrete Polishing were approached to aid in the reprocessing of this polished concrete floor at a project on the Isle of Harris, Scotland.

This polished concrete floor had been supplied, placed and polished by a different contractor. Unfortunately the results did not meet the client’s expectations.

 The floor had been placed to a substandard level for a polished finish. The floor suffered cracks due to no control joints being present. Also, the floor was uneven, and discolouration was visible. Concrete Polishing’s task was to rescue this polished concrete floor. To improve the smoothness, discoloration and to ensure the floor was consistently polished with an exposed aggregate finish.

Our client opted to make a feature of the cracks. A black repair product was added to these. A challenging aspect for our contractors was that the property was fully furnished, this therefore was imperative that we managed our dust control correctly, using H-Class vacuums. Working around fitted units limited the amount of initial grinding that could be carried out by contractors, especially around thresholds, this therefore made it difficult for all surface defects and discoloration to be removed, caused by the initial installation, however our results proved satisfactory for the client.

Overall, this was a challenging 10 days onsite, however the results that Concrete Polishing were able to achieve exceeded the client’s expectations, they finally had the polished concrete floor that they wanted, and they were able to spend Christmas in their home. A fantastic result for the team that completed these works. Well done!
