Polished Concrete – Worcestershire

Polished Concrete – Worcestershire

Our client was in the first stages of completing their floor. At their home in, Worcestershire. They, however, decided they wanted polished concrete throughout the whole of the ground floor.

The central part of the extension was to be open plan. Therefore, the client wanted to extend polished concrete throughout to include the stairs also. The clients chosen type of finish was the Exposed Aggregate Finish. Therefore, natural aggregate is exposed.

The extension was, however, to be a holiday home. Therefore, the client’s flooring needed to include little maintenance, stain-resistant, and aesthetically pleasing, yet, due to the contractors carrying out polished concrete on the stairs. The concrete would, therefore, need to be slip-resistant. The concrete supplied, laid and finished by us. Once the contractors had placed the floor, mechanically diamond polishing it could then take place. To achieve exposed aggregate finish contractors performed an initial heavy grind. It was the grinding that exposed the aggregate. After, the grinding contractors carried out the stages to mechanically polish the floor. The contractors then added a concrete sealer. This aids with slip resistance and stain resistance. To achieve this finish, contractors, therefore, carried out the same process, except the work was carried out using hand tooling on the stairs.

However, due to the clients choosing an exposed aggregate finish, the low standard of concrete finishing did not pose a problem. To achieve an exposed aggregate finish. The contractors carried out a heavy initial grind. This, therefore, prepared the floor for mechanical diamond polishing. The heavy grinding also. Therefore, eliminated any defects in the concrete. Semi-rigid polyurea was then added to the joints by the contractors.

A different contractor installed the concrete to a suitable standard. The clients chosen type of finish. The Exposed Aggregate Finish.  Therefore, to achieve this type of finish the contractor firstly had to grind the surface heavily. Deep grinding. Therefore, it allowed any defects when the contractors laid the concrete, to be eliminated. Contractors then carried out the different stages to mechanically diamond polish the floor. Lastly, contractors added a sealer to the floor.  This helps with slip resistance. And, also protects from any spillages penetrating the floor. An exposed aggregate finish gives the highest level of shine. And it is extremely hard-wearing. Objectives that the client was looking for.

Commercial Polished Concrete – Staffordshire

Polished Concrete – Staffordshire

We were approached by a client that was in the process of extending their existing premises. The extension was to be a Cookery School. The clients wanted polished concrete as their choice of flooring for the commercial premises in Staffordshire.

Due to the project being a commercial kitchen environment, the main objectives were, slip resistance, stain resistance, aesthetically pleasing and of course cost-effective.

After discussing the project in-depth, and the client weighing up other flooring options. The client undoubtedly decided that a commercial polished concrete floor was best suited to their project.

Concrete Polishing supplied, laid and finished the concrete. The chosen type of finish was a Rustic Style Finish. Silver Grey in colour.  Contractors laid and finished the floor to a power trowelled standard. This is a crucial part when needing to achieve a rustic style finish, due to minimal grinding taking place when mechanically diamond polishing the floor.

The commercial polished concrete floor, Staffordshire was achieved using the Husqvarna HIPERFLOOR® system. A series of lighter grinding stages took place. This therefore highlighting the natural power trowel pattern, this needs to be evident in the desired type of finish. Contractors applied concrete sealer to the floor. Polished Concrete – Telford West Midlands

Polished Concrete – Telford West Midlands

Polished Concrete Commercial Premises – Café

We were approached by a customer that was in the process of renovating an old building into a cafe. He was looking for polished concrete at the premises in Telford, West Midlands.

Initially, contractors from a different company undertook the project. However, unfortunately, they were unable to meet the client’s expectations. This is where we stepped in.

The client was looking for a variable finish, with a light gloss. The aggregate is slightly exposed but not uniformed. The client wanted this particular type of finish due to functionality being the key. The main objectives were to create a functional, aesthetically pleasing floor that was resistant to slip and spillages.

The previous contractors had laid the floor to a low standard, and contractors had also filled the joints poorly. Our contractors used decorative semi-rigid polyurea to repair the joints in order for the slab to contract. We could then begin the grinding process.

Polished Concrete – Process

Due to the client wanting a variable finish the initial grind only needed to be light. This, therefore, exposed the aggregate where needed. The contractors then progressed onto mechanically diamond polish the floor. Being commercial premises with reasonably high traffic it was essential that the floor was slip-resistant, and any spillages would not affect the overall condition or aesthetics of the floor. Therefore, a concrete sealer was applied, this ensured that the customer’s main objectives were fulfilled. Slip and stain resistant.

As you can see the standard of the overall result was very high. Our contractors managed to significantly improve the existing slab without having to replace the concrete. This was also achieved within the timescale needed for the premises to open to the public. Another amazing result by the team!

Polished Concrete – Wrexham, Wales

Polished Concrete – Wrexham, Wales

Our client had acquired a barn conversion. And was potentially thinking of choosing the flooring option of Polished Concrete at their project in Wrexham, Wales.

They were looking for a flooring option that was in keeping with the character of the barn.  As well as keeping it modern and stylish. They, therefore, opted for a mechanically ground polished concrete option with a Rustic Style Finish. The main part of the conversion was to be open plan.  With the property being all on one level they were looking at polished concrete extending throughout.

A contractor installed the underfloor heating, the slab was placed and finished to a power trowelled standard. Due to the client wanting a Rustic Style finish a deep grind was not necessary. Contractors, therefore, carried out lighter grinding on the area. This, therefore, magnifies the movements of the power trowelling, which in turn gives you the rustic yet modern characteristics of this type of finish. Due to the polished concrete being throughout the property it was vital that the floor was resistant to stains as well as slip. After mechanically grinding and polishing the floor, the contractor applied a concrete sealer, this aided with the clients main objective of slip and stain resistance.

Commercial Polished Concrete

Commercial Polished Concrete

Why “real” Polished Concrete is the way forward for your flooring option.

Is “real” polished concrete flooring the way forward for commercial flooring? We say yes, and this is why.

It has always been so that in commercial flooring spaces such as retail, restaurants, cafés and office spaces, overlays and micro cement have always been the preferred choice. Both coatings when applied to an existing surface including tiles or wood. It imitates actual concrete.

As time has progressed it appears Architects and Designers are becoming more familiar with the concept of “real” polished concrete. Than opposed to overlays and micro cement. They are ever increasingly looking st cost-effective and “green” flooring options. These therefore, are just 2 of the reasons why a commercial polished concrete floor is the way forward when choosing your commercial flooring.

Overlays and Micro Cement

We will always find many commercial premises where an overlay or micro cement is more suited. Where access is minimal for example. This type of concrete finish will always hold its own within the flooring industry. However, it is soon becoming apparent that “real” polished concrete will be here for the duration of time.

When considering the durability of a concrete floor, it is a commercial polished concrete floor that contractors will have refined using a mechanical diamond process that will undoubtedly stand the test of time.

Using, Husqvarna HIPERFLOOR® it can be guaranteed that the functionality of the floor and aesthetics are not compromised over long periods of time. The contractor cannot guarantee functionality with other flooring options.

Many larger outfits are now looking to polished concrete for a commercial flooring option. These include car showrooms, office space, restaurants and cafes. They are finding that polished concrete is economically the wisest choice, is resistant to wear and spillages. Environmentally friendly. And therefore easily maintained at a low cost, just to name a few benefits. All important contributing factors when deciding on a flooring option.

  • Durability
  • Resistant to wear and tear

  • Cost-effective
  • Aesthetically pleasing

Then a “real” polished concrete floor is undoubtedly the best commercial flooring option!
