Polished Concrete Floors – Scotland

Polished Concrete Floors – Scotland

Concrete Polishing were contacted by a client that was in the process of renovating a whisky distillery. The client felt that a polished concrete floor was the most suitable option for their project in Scotland. The client was looking for a flooring option that was low maintenance, retained heat well, and of course, was aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, polished concrete floors in Scotland was the better choice.

A different contractor had placed and power trowelled the existing floor. The contractors that laid the floor, unfortunately, had issues on the day of placement, this, therefore, resulted in the floor being substandard. The client, therefore, instructed concrete Polishing to restore and rectify any problems that had occurred.

The type of finish that the client was wanting was a Rustic Style Finish. No aggregate exposed to the surface. To achieve this type of finish, the contractors carry out a series of very light grinding stages, and no heavy grinding is needed. Once the contractors completed these stages, contractors then applied a sealer to the floor. This aids with slip resistance and stain resistance. Also, a major problem that occurred was surface cracking. Contractors filled these with semi-rigid polyurea.  The client decided they wanted to make a feature from the cracks. Therefore, a slightly lighter polyurea was applied. The feature looked brilliant and added to the overall rustic style finish that the client wanted.

As you can see, the end results were fantastic, on this polished concrete floors in Scotland. A great result from Concrete Polishing!

Polished Concrete – Buckinghamshire

Polished Concrete – Buckinghamshire

Concrete Polishing were approached by a client wanting a polished concrete floor. In the Buckinghamshire area. The client was in the middle of building their new family home. Our client was looking for an aesthetically modern-looking flooring option that retained heat and easy to maintain.  Polished concrete offered all of these options and more.

The client asked concrete polishing to supply, lay, finish and mechanically polish the new floor. Our clients chosen finish was the Rustic Style Finish and Silver Grey in colour. The finish does not show any aggregate. The surface is, therefore, power trowelled.  Contractors laid the concrete directly over the underfloor heating system. Contractors then finished the floor to a high power trowelled standard. The standard of power trowelling is essential, this therefore will determine the overall look of the finished floor.

To achieve the polished concrete floor in Buckinghamshire, the Husqvarna HIPERFLOOR® system was used. Contractors carried out a series of light grinding steps. Contractors did not need a heavy initial grind due to the aggregate not being exposed. And, instead, the lighter grinding movements highlight the natural power trowel pattern, which is the overall look that the client was wanting. Contractors then added a concrete sealer to help with protection from spillages and slip resistance.

Industrial Polished Concrete – Shropshire

Industrial Polished Concrete – Shropshire

A client approached Concrete Polishing, they were in the first stages of expanding their warehouse.  An industrial polished concrete in Shropshire floor met all our client’s needs, this, therefore, was their first choice. The benefits of an industrial polished concrete floor would be a long-lasting, high strength and durable surface. Resistant to abrasion, and therefore good for high traffic areas. Floor flatness, so also ideal for forklifts. All needs of our clients.

Our client was wanting Concrete Polishing to install, finish and mechanically diamond polish the new floor. The type of finish was the grey industrial finish, this is the most popular in an industrial environment. The surface is power trowelled, therefore, no aggregate is exposed.

After the floor had been laid and finished to a power trowelled standard, 28 days was allowed. Contractors could, therefore, then begin to mechanically diamond polish the new floor.  In the light of our client not wanting aggregate shown, a series of lighter grinding stages were necessary. Therefore, highlighting the natural power trowel pattern, what our client wanted.  Contractors then applied the concrete sealer to the floor. This helps with slip resistance and stain resistance.

Once the concrete had been laid contractors were then, therefore able to power float the surface. Contractors then left the surface to cure for around 28 days. The surface is then ready for contractors to mechanically diamond polish the floor. Contactors achieved the exposed aggregate finish by firstly heavy grinding the surface. After the grinding stage is complete contractors then begin to mechanically polish the floor. Once complete, contractors can apply a concrete sealer. This helps with slip and stain resistance.

Polished Concrete – Warwickshire

Polished Concrete – Residential

Our client approached Concrete Polishing, who wanted a polished concrete floor in an extension at their property in Warwickshire. The extension was to be a kitchen/snug. The area was to include an oak timber-framed feature window. As well as oak cladding on the walls and skirting. The clients, therefore, felt that an Exposed Aggregate Finish with a high gloss would be the best option and would suit the overall look that they were wanting to achieve.

The client asked for Concrete Polishing to place, finish and polish the floor. The client chose to remain with the natural colour from the local quarry where the concrete would be supplied from. They felt that the neutral tones of the concrete would therefore complement the oak timber throughout.

The concrete was placed by our contractors directly over the under-floor heating system. And finished to a power trowelled standard. Once contractors had finished placing the slab, the mechanical process could therefore begin around 28 days later.

Polished Concrete – Process

The clients chosen type of finish was the exposed aggregate. To expose aggregate a heavy initial grind is therefore necessary. This in turn prepares the floor for the mechanical diamond polishing process. Heavy grinding also eliminates any imperfections in the concrete that may have occurred when placing. Included in the area was a kitchen. Therefore, a significant factor that the client wanted to avoid was any staining from spillage. Contractors, therefore, applied a sealer to the area that would prevent any spillages from penetrating into the floor. Once contractors had finished the polishing process, contractors could apply the sealer to the area.

Commercial Polished Concrete – Merseyside

Concrete Polishing was approached by a client that was wanting to restore their premises in Liverpool, Merseyside. The client was turning the premises into a restaurant. They had looked at many types of floor covering. However, polished concrete was definitely their first choice for the premises in Merseyside.

Contractors had to meet objectives due to this being a restaurant and constant foot flow. These included, slip resistance, stain resistance and easily maintained. And, of course, aesthetically pleasing. Our client felt that a polished concrete floor would meet all of these objectives.

A different contractor had laid the concrete to a good standard. The clients chosen type of finish was the Exposed Aggregate Finish. The type of finish that the client wanted was achieved by firstly carrying out a heavy grind. This, therefore, exposes the aggregate. Post this process, the contractors begin the mechanical diamond polishing process. Contractors then added the concrete sealer to the surface after the polishing process was complete. The sealer is a big factor in making sure that the client’s main objectives are met. These being slip resistance and stain resistance.

The extension was, however, to be a holiday home. Therefore, the client’s flooring needed to include little maintenance, stain-resistant, and aesthetically pleasing, yet, due to the contractors carrying out polished concrete on the stairs. The concrete would, therefore, need to be slip-resistant. The concrete supplied, laid and finished by us. We were approached by a client that was in the process of extending their existing premises. The extension was to be a Cookery School. The clients wanted polished concrete as their choice of flooring for the commercial premises in Staffordshire.

Due to the project being a commercial kitchen environment, the main objectives were, slip resistance, stain resistance, aesthetically pleasing and of course cost-effective.

After discussing the project in-depth, and the client weighing up other flooring options. The client undoubtedly decided that a commercial polished concrete floor was best suited to their project.

Concrete Polishing supplied, laid and finished the concrete. The chosen type of finish was a Rustic Style Finish. Concrete Polishing strives for visual excellence with every floor, trying to exceed the expectations of our clients. It is rewarding to have that recognised and affirmed by experts in concrete technology.

Hencote Winery is a fantastic venue which has received rave reviews for its wine, its restaurant and for its accommodation. The restaurant commands exquisite views of the Shropshire hills. We crafted the restaurant floor using integrally coloured cement and a decorative golden aggregate. The design of the restaurant allows natural light to flood into the room, bringing out different colours in the floor at different times of the day. The exposed aggregate and high gloss reflect light, helping brighten the space after sunset. Hencote selected clustered single bulb lighting, directed by opaque shades. The lights are reflected in the floor’s dark surface, creating a starlight effect.

This was a challenging project. With such a large space, and few architectural features, the floor is a major factor in the overall look of the restaurant. Concrete Polishing was excited to be part of this project and it is rewarding to see it appreciated by the PICS and the decorative concrete community.

Since Hencote we have continued to develop as a company, building our knowledge and skills in the field of polished concrete. We aim to build on this success and continue exceed expectations, creating attractive and hardwearing floors across the UK.
