Polished Concrete – Wales

Polished Concrete – Wales

Concrete Polishing were approached by a client that was looking for a polished concrete floor at their holiday home in Wales. The area in question was the entrance hall to their home. They were therefore looking for a flooring option that was slip-resistant and easily maintainable, and of course aesthetically pleasing. Polished concrete fulfilled all the client’s objectives and more. The property had many quirky features, therefore polished concrete was in fitting with the rest of the decoration.

The client had chosen an Exposed Aggregate Finish. This type of finish is where the aggregate is exposed. The floor was an existing concrete floor. Therefore, to begin contractors had to heavily grind the floor, in order to expose the aggregate. This involved several stages of grinding. Once the grinding stages were complete, contractors could therefore begin to mechanically diamond polish the floor. Again, contractors also completed several stages. Contractors then reached a suitable gloss level.  Lastly, contractors can then apply a sealer to the area. This will help with slip resistance, an objective of the clients. The final result is a perfectly flat, smooth, slip resistant polished concrete floor. The process carried out by contractors was the Husqvarna HIPERFLOOR® system and tooling.

Polished Concrete Floor Gloucestershire

Polished Concrete Floor Gloucestershire

Our client approached Concrete Polishing. They wanted a polished concrete floor at their wedding venue in Gloucestershire. The client was wanting to convert an out barn on their estate into a wedding reception or hospitality area. The overall concept was to keep the flooring style in line with the rustic feeling of the barn, therefore our Rustic Style Finish polished concrete floor was the best option. Due to the venue hosting parties, our client was looking for a flooring option that was low maintenance. Slip resistant and stain resistant. A polished concrete floor furfilled all of these points.

The existing concrete floor was laid by a different company. Contractors had finished the floor to a substandard power float. Therefore in places the floor was uneven. Contractors began by completing a series of lighter grinding steps. This therefore highlighted the natural movement of the power trowel marks and creating a rustic style finish. For contractors to achieve a rustic style polished concrete floor, it is unnecessary for heavy grinding. Therefore no aggregate is exposed. The final stage that contractors complete after the grinding steps is applying a concrete sealer. Contractors then used the concrete sealer, and as a result, this, therefore, aids with protection from spillages and slip resistance. All main objectives that our client had.

Polished Concrete Floors – Herefordshire

Polished Concrete Floors

A client contacted Concrete Polishing that was wanting a polished concrete floor at their home in Herefordshire. The property was a new build project. Our client had chosen a polished concrete floor as their type of flooring because it has minimal maintenance, stain-resistant and eco-friendly and of course aesthetically pleasing. These were all crucial factors due to the polished concrete floor stretching throughout the downstairs.

polished concrete floor polished concrete floor

Our client was wanting to create a minimal, modern feel to the house. The floor had been laid in conventional concrete and was power trowelled by a different contractor. There were slight imperfections, so contractors had to carry out a Variable Style Finish. This is where there is slight aggregate exposure. To create a variable finish, contractors carried out an initial light grind. This enhances the characteristics created by the power trowel and exposes minimal aggregate. The floor could then be mechanically diamond polished. Contractors mechanically polished the floor to a 400 grit. Contractors then applied a concrete sealer to help with slip resistance and stain resistance.

The polished concrete floors stretched throughout the whole of the reception of the house, the results were fantastic. Concrete Polishing made a smart, modern and minimal space. The results, therefore, exceeded our client’s expectations. Another brilliant job by Concrete Polishing.

Polished Concrete Floors – Scotland

Polished Concrete Floors – Scotland

Concrete Polishing were contacted by a client that was in the process of renovating a whisky distillery. The client felt that a polished concrete floor was the most suitable option for their project in Scotland. The client was looking for a flooring option that was low maintenance, retained heat well, and of course, was aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, polished concrete floors in Scotland was the better choice.

A different contractor had placed and power trowelled the existing floor. The client, therefore, instructed concrete Polishing to restore and rectify any problems that had occurred.

The type of finish that the client was wanting was a Rustic Style Finish. No aggregate exposed to the surface. To achieve this type of finish, the contractors carry out a series of very light grinding stages, and no heavy grinding is needed. Once the contractors completed these stages, contractors then applied a sealer to the floor. This aids with slip resistance and stain resistance. Also, a major problem that occurred was surface cracking. Contractors filled these with semi-rigid polyurea.  The client decided they wanted to make a feature from the cracks. Therefore, a slightly lighter polyurea was applied. The feature looked brilliant and added to the overall rustic style finish that the client wanted.

As you can see, the end results were fantastic, on this polished concrete floors in Scotland. A great result from Concrete Polishing!

Concrete Polishing was approached by a client that was wanting to restore their premises in Liverpool, Merseyside. The client was turning the premises into a restaurant. They had looked at many types of floor covering. However, polished concrete was definitely their first choice for the premises in Merseyside.

Contractors had to meet objectives due to this being a restaurant and constant foot flow. These included, slip resistance, stain resistance and easily maintained. And, of course, aesthetically pleasing. Our client felt that a polished concrete floor would meet all of these objectives.

A different contractor had laid the concrete to a good standard. The clients chosen type of finish was the Exposed Aggregate Finish. The type of finish that the client wanted was achieved by firstly carrying out a heavy grind. This, therefore, exposes the aggregate. Post this process, the contractors begin the mechanical diamond polishing process. Contractors then added the concrete sealer to the surface after the polishing process was complete. Therefore, it allowed any defects when the contractors laid the concrete, to be eliminated. Contractors then carried out the different stages to mechanically diamond polish the floor. Commercial Polished Concrete

Commercial Polished Concrete

Why “real” Polished Concrete is the way forward for your flooring option.

Is “real” polished concrete flooring the way forward for commercial flooring? We say yes, and this is why.

It has always been so that in commercial flooring spaces such as retail, restaurants, cafés and office spaces, overlays and micro cement have always been the preferred choice. Both coatings when applied to an existing surface including tiles or wood. It imitates actual concrete.

As time has progressed it appears Architects and Designers are becoming more familiar with the concept of “real” polished concrete. Than opposed to overlays and micro cement. They are ever increasingly looking st cost-effective and “green” flooring options. These therefore, are just 2 of the reasons why a commercial polished concrete floor is the way forward when choosing your commercial flooring.

Overlays and Micro Cement

We will always find many commercial premises where an overlay or micro cement is more suited. Where access is minimal for example. This type of concrete finish will always hold its own within the flooring industry. However, it is soon becoming apparent that “real” polished concrete will be here for the duration of time.

When considering the durability of a concrete floor, it is a commercial polished concrete floor that contractors will have refined using a mechanical diamond process that will undoubtedly stand the test of time.

Using, Husqvarna HIPERFLOOR® it can be guaranteed that the functionality of the floor and aesthetics are not compromised over long periods of time. The contractor cannot guarantee functionality with other flooring options.

Many larger outfits are now looking to polished concrete for a commercial flooring option. These include car showrooms, office space, restaurants and cafes. They are finding that polished concrete is economically the wisest choice, is resistant to wear and spillages. Environmentally friendly. And therefore easily maintained at a low cost, just to name a few benefits. All important contributing factors when deciding on a flooring option.

If you are looking for a flooring option that offers:

  • Durability
  • Resistant to wear and tear
  • Environmentally Friendly
  • Cost-effective
  • Aesthetically pleasing

Then a “real” polished concrete floor is undoubtedly the best commercial flooring option!

If you have any queries regarding your project and are thinking polished concrete would be the best option then please do not hesitate to contact us on 01691 655 755 or info@concretepolishing.co.uk
