Commercial Polished Concrete Overlay are fast becoming a popular flooring choice for a commercial environment.

A cementitious overlay has many benefits, to name a few:

• A cementitious overlay is a thin layer of cement-based material that’s can be applied over existing concrete to enhance its appearance.
• Overlays can be customized in colour, and type of finish.
• Overlays are extremely durable and can be therefore be used for both internal and external projects.

However, before deciding a commercial polished concrete overlay is suitable for your project there are some points to consider:

• The existing concrete surface beneath needs to be sound, stable.
• The concrete surface needs to be thoroughly prepared and any crack repairs need to be completed.
• Furthermore, moisture levels need to be at a minimum, using the correct materials to reduce the levels. Moisture that is trapped between the existing concrete slab and the cementitious overlay can cause the overlay to fail.
• The maintenance of a commercial polished concrete overlay is minimal, providing regular recommended maintenance is adhered to.

Concrete Polishing recently had the opportunity to work with a major brand at their retail premises in Reading, Berkshire. Here, Concrete Polishing supplied, placed and polished approximately 6000m2 of cementitious overlay to an existing concrete slab in the MarketHall area of the store.

As you can see the existing floor was exposed to extensive cracking. Our client was wanting to achieve a more uniformed aesthetic, in addition keeping with an industrial style feel.
