“Museum of Making” – RIBA Award

June 19th, 2023 at 12:48 pm

Concrete Polishing are thrilled to have been apart of the Museum of Making project that has won the prestigious RIBA award architect of the year for the East Midlands region.

“The Museum of Making, Derby Silk Mill”

The museum exhibits the heritage of manufacture in the region. From mills to the city’s industry of planes, trains and cars.

Concrete Polishing undertook works in the “civic hall” which is the main area when you enter the museum. In addition works also included stairs. Concrete Polishing’s works continued through to the Italian Mill and the Sowter Mill.

Concrete polishing were instructed to place, finish and polish the concrete in the desired locations throughout the museum. A flint grey coloured polished concrete was chosen throughout the “civic hall” area. A rustic style finish with no aggregate exposure was the desired type of finish, this therefore being a perfect choice to coincide with the industrial background of the museum. Alternatively, in certain parts of the museum Concrete Polishing restored and repaired existing concrete floors to create functional, authentic industrial style polished concrete flooring.

The “Museum of Making” RIBA award project was a wonderful project to be apart of. The results that Concrete Polishing were able to achieve were incredible.
